With their cash cow body-on-frame SUVs seeing a decided downturn in sales, it is no surprise that the Big 3 are rushing to get crossovers into the market. Crossovers are the evolution of the SUV, in a sense. If you consider that the popularity of SUVs has been driven by comfort, utility, and driving position, instead of off-road prowess, then it is no suprise that the car-based crossovers are so popular. Since the popularity of trucks and SUVs first boomed, automakers have been trying to make their truck platforms more car-like. Now, they try to make their cars platforms more truck-like. Go figure.
