Indonesian Collector Car Scam
Car collectors, beware of Indonesians bearing hot exotics (no, not the underaged kind). Potential buyers of exotic vehicles have reported being baited by e-mail, from individuals posing as put-upon Indonesian businessmen willing to let a rare car go at a price too good to ignore. The scammers often use photos lifted directly from others’ ads on eBay or Hemmings Motor News, and according to a letter to Sports Car Market, one even sent a collector the VIN number from one of Ralph Lauren’s Ferraris. Sports Car Market set up a page to track buyers’ first-hand experience as the target of such scammers.
