WASHINGTON, May 18, 2009; John Crawley writing for Reuters reported that
Chrysler LLC was asked on Monday by a congressional subcommittee to provide
documents on its planned factory closings, with the panel’s chairman saying
lawmakers were not given a full accounting of the matter.

“Members of Congress were assured that there would be no permanent
Chrysler plant closings or job losses under the terms of Chrysler’s
(bankruptcy),” wrote Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich in a letter to Chrysler
Chief Executive Robert Nardelli.

“When the terms of the bankruptcy were released on May 1, 2009, plants
in Michigan, Missouri, Wisconsin and Ohio were targeted for closure,” wrote
Kucinich, who chairs the Oversight and Government Reform Committee’s
domestic policy panel.
