General Motors bigwigs and New York City officials gathered Friday to christen Harlem's first new car dealerships in 40 years. Company executives hope the pair of two-brand showrooms (one Cadillac/Hummer and the other Chevrolet/Saturn) will help shore up the company's results in urban markets, one area where GM consistently underperforms. The new dealerships are located in east Harlem, away from much of the trendier areas that have benefited from gentrification over the past few years. Reportedly, the new dealerships are responsible for creating 150 new jobs, with more than double that amount expected as they get up to speed.
